One of the biggest battles I faced when converting my whole family’s diet nearly 10 years ago to that of a whole food processed free one, was the morning bowl of convienient cereal. 

 

My children would easily eat a bowl or two of weetbix a day and although there isn’t all that much wrong with weetbix there also isn’t that much good about it either... I still struggle to find the answer to why these  types of nutritionally lack-lustre “meals” are seen as accepted breakfast options for growing human teenagers?

 

I also struggle to comprehend paying the price of the ‘clean eating’ health food type cereals available, so of course, I started to make my own;

 

2 cups of Oats.

2 cups of puffed Brown Rice.

2 cups of puffed Quinoa or Millet.

250 grams of mixed seeds.

You can 1/2 a cup of nuts and shredded coconut at this stage too for a bit of extra texture and taste. It’s really just what you like and have on hand.

1 cup of quality Olive or Coconut oil.

1 cup of Maple Syrup.

2 tablespoons of cinnamon.

 

Mix and combine wet ingredients dients in a large bowl. Add the dry and stir until well combined. Spread evenly onto a lined baking tray and bake in a low 160dg oven until golden stiring from time to time. Store in an airtight container in the pantry.

 

My children snack on this with almond milk and berries, I love mine with coconut yoghurt!
